No Gym Needed: A 15-Minute Home Workout

No Gym Needed: A 15-Minute Home Workout

Six moves, no equipment, and a routine you can realistically stick with.

The best workout is the one you'll actually do. This one takes 15 minutes, needs no equipment and works for almost any fitness level.

The routine

Do each move for 40 seconds, rest 20 seconds, and go through the circuit two or three times.

  • Squats: sit back as if into a chair, then stand. Use a real chair to start if you need to.
  • Push-ups: from your toes, your knees, or against a wall.
  • Glute bridges: lie on your back, knees bent, and lift your hips.
  • Reverse lunges: step back, lower, return. Alternate legs.
  • Plank: hold a straight line from head to heels, on elbows or hands.
  • Marching in place with high knees to finish.

Make it stick

  • Same time, same place, most days.
  • Track it on a calendar. Streaks are motivating.
  • Make it harder only once it feels easy.

If you have heart, joint or balance issues, or you're coming back from an injury, check with your doctor first.

Adapting for your body

If a move is too hard, use a sturdy chair for support or reduce the range of motion. The goal is consistent, gentle movement, not perfection.

Balance matters

Balance exercises can help prevent falls. Practice standing on one leg while holding a chair, or walking heel to toe along a hallway.

Join a class

Local senior centers, community centers and YMCAs often offer free or low-cost classes like chair yoga, tai chi and gentle strength training.
